Because I haven't posted in hours but suddenly there are multiple notifications defending a car I might have joked about or given a level headed opinion of. God forbid anyone say something disparaging about a car you like (or it's owners).

I've heard of them overheating already at track events in the states. Can't remember which track exactly (though I seem to recall either VIR or Road Atlanta for some reason)...one of my CCA chapter guys was talking about it. I'm waiting for someone to put some NT01s or similar on it and flog it for half an hour straight and see how it holds up. Brakes should be a significant improvement over the E9X, but I'm skeptical of the cooling systems. Seems like it would be a fun car to track with the new low-to-mid range torque and the stiffer chassis/solid subframe. Certainly speaks for itself in terms of ring times, but that doesn't necessarily make it a good track day car...

Allow me one question. Does the i8 have that generic new-car-smell? I would think with all the new materials and efforts to differentiate from common cars BMW would have come up with a unique "scent design".

A friend of mine was at Road Atlanta last weekend, no issues of overheating reported from him. During his euro delivery he beat it pretty well at Spa during summer and had no issues from the brakes or limp mode. I'll put up a link when he posts the notes from Road Atlanta, he was hurting some egos in the P-car realm around the track :)

LOVE to see BMWs bruising P-cars. Every time I pass one it's a tiny victory. Glad to hear about your friend at RA - maybe they've finally got cooling figured out! That was the reason I jumped ship from my E92 335i to the E90 M3: better for track duty right out of the box. Well, that and the V8... my 20 minute drive to work took 30 this morning. Stepped out of the car thinking man, FIVE more minutes would've been nice =P

I'mm holding out hope that it's awesome. Now doubt it'll drive well. But if it will be enough for me to change up.

If I do, I will end up getting an old muscle car for some V8 rumble. The M3 can tackle the precision stuff. :)
